Hey, some of that Expo advertising must be working - because it looks like at least one group of people have noticed Shanghai: video game developers who want to wreak havoc on its city streets. Hot on the heels of Army of Two, comes this multiplatform wonder, Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days.
The game is a sequel to the critically okay Kane & Lynch: Dead Men, and takes place about three years after the original ended. Lynch, the balding guy with a mullet, has made our sprawling metropolis his home and even gotten himself a girlfriend (maybe he teaches English). Kane is invited over to do a straightforward massive arms deal and - surprise - it goes wrong!
Like Army of Two, it seems Shanghai won't get away from this unscarred. The developers told Destructoid that the city is a little "worse for wear" after the pair's visit:
"We went there, and it's not all bad," he says. "It's actually a beautiful place. Again, this is our version, this is our perception. But I think we stayed very true with how you perceive it when you go there. And the fun part of being in Shanghai is that it's so diverse; it's so new and old at the same time, so rich, so poor. Just from block to block it changes. You can go from ruins to shiny skyscapers in the distance of ten meters. So I guess Kane and Lynch hang out in some of the places sometimes."...
"It's kind of sad for Shanghai," he says, "because the city is the big loser in this story."
Even bigger a loser than it was in Army of Two, where all its most iconic skyscrapers were destroyed in the span of the first five minutes? We'll see! The trailer is above. My first impression: once again, it looks like a pretty generic Chinatown set (though the phone numbers graffitied onto walls was authentic enough, I suppose). If Lynch hadn't started the video up with a "Welcome to Shanghai," I would have thought I was in Hong Kong.
