Archeologists in Henan province have discovered a tomb in Mengjin County, Luoyang City belonging to general Cao Xiu of the Three Kingdoms period (220-280 A.D.), says Caijing. Cao Xiu is recorded as having died in 228. The tomb, discovered late last year, measures 50 meters long and 21 meters wide, and contains human bones belonging to a 50-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman along with pieces of chinaware, copper, cups and jugs.

According to Xinhua, the tomb is similar to that of the powerful warlord Cao Cao of the Eastern Han Dynasty, which was found in Anyang City, Henan in December. Cao Xiu served as a military general under Cao Cao -- Chinese history books state that Cao Cao considered Cao Xiu as a son, though he was likely a distant nephew.

While the discovery of Cao Cao's tomb has been considered one of China's great archeological achievements, there was some skepticism from scholars who questioned the finding's authenticity. DNA testing on a skull discovered in the tomb is currently being conducted by experts from Fudan University. Here's hoping that findings from Cao Xiu's tomb will help shed light on both Caos' lives -- and deaths -- way back in the day.
