Just because China is home to the world's largest population doesn't automatically mean that Shanghai Expo will be the world's most well attended World's Fair in history. We've seen what daily attendance has looked like over the past week, and if no major change happens in that figure, then we are definitely not going to get the projected 70-100 million visitors. Of course we know it's early days yet and there's nothing to stop the Chinese from shipping in container loads of students and retirees, but let's just take a quick look at the latest information that we got from the Shanghai Expo site, shall we? With 2.13 million visitors over the last 13 days, we have an average daily attendance of 163,800. At this rate, the Shanghai Expo is going to see a grand total of just 30.3 million people by October. On the third day of its opening, this fair attracted 569,000 visitors, setting the single-day attendance record for a world's fair. It would go on to attract 50 million visitors over the next six months, and since then, none of the other World Expo's has ever come close. No mean feat when you consider the fact that Canada's population back then was just 20 million, equivalent to Shanghai's population today.
